Have you ever thought (or heard someone say) “I’m not creative”? Creativity is not a finite resource only for a few…it’s part of being human. This talk traces my journey from newbie quilter to creative quilting teacher and invites you to deepen your creative quilting practice.

  • Hand Quilting

    Learn the simple and meditative art of big stitch hand quilting. We will cover how to baste your quilt, thread your needle, tie a quilter’s knot and sew beautiful lines of hand quilting.

  • Hand Quilting II: Designing with Thread

    Experiment with different thread weights, marking tools, and quilting motifs to make hand quilting a key design element in quiltmaking.

  • Matchstick Quilted Greeting Cards

    Intuitively piece together fabric scraps in an original improv design and learn to matchstick quilt them for a clean, textured finish.

  • Improv Mini Quilt

    Follow your instincts to quickly and intuitively compose a scrappy improv mini quilt. Then slow down and add texture to your composition with the meditative art of hand quilting.

    Do you have a garment in your closet that doesn’t fit your body or your style anymore but is too precious to donate or recycle? Dig up that garment and come transform it into textile art!

  • Mini Story Quilt Top

    Manifest a story you want to tell in a mini-quilt/small study. This class will include a writing exercise and work session to conceive, design, and create your mini quilt.

  • Gallery-Inspired Textile Sketching

    Take a walk around a local art gallery and select one or more details informed by the elements of art and/or the principles of design to inspire a simple textile sketch .

    Come spend the afternoon working quickly and intuitively, experimenting with improvisational piecing, playing with color and discovering unexpected shapes as they emerge.
